One of the most imaginative and talked-about custom vehicles in the country has just made its descent into Reno—and it’s drawing crowds as fast as it once roared across the Bonneville Salt Flats. The National Automobile Museum is thrilled to welcome the Plymouth Air Radial Truck, a jaw-dropping fusion of automotive ingenuity and aviation engineering, now on temporary display through December 31, 2025.
From Rusty Relic to Runway-Ready Radical
Originally a forgotten 1939 Plymouth pickup left to rust for nearly 30 years, this machine has been completely reborn by the Corns family of Englewood, Colorado. Known for their creative salvage work and eye-popping builds, the Corns turned scrap into spectacle—reviving this old truck into a fully operational, aircraft-powered hot rod.
At its core? A Jacobs R-755 radial engine—a 7-cylinder powerhouse once used in 1950s seaplanes—now delivering a roaring 300 horsepower. Built atop a custom tube chassis and featuring a boat-style V-drive powertrain, the truck’s body is clad in raw steel and punctuated by over 1,000 hand-driven rivets, echoing the aesthetics of WWII-era aircraft.
Take a Look Inside the Cockpit

The aviation theme doesn’t stop at the engine or bodywork. Inside the cabin, museum visitors will find:
Dual aircraft yoke controls
Authentic aviation seats
A handmade console featuring mock cartridge starter shells
Fully functional flight-style instrumentation
A Tribute to Ingenuity and Grit
Already a standout on the national show circuit, the Plymouth Air Radial Truck has earned admiration from engineers, gearheads, and even aviation royalty—including a former Cessna CEO, who left his autograph on the dash.
This vehicle isn’t just a display piece—it’s a moving, roaring celebration of mechanical artistry, American ingenuity, and fearless design. If you’re a fan of hot rods, aircraft, or just appreciate bold, hands-on craftsmanship, this exhibit is a must-see.
