Hardware Store Exhibit
About the Exhibit
P. Echert & Co, formerly a purveyor of confections, is now in the hardware business on the Museum’s Turn-of-the-Century Street. Stocked with collectible tools and warmed by a pot belly stove, this cozy store features our story of the evolution of auto repair tools. Here, Henry Ford describes the success of his universal car, the Model T Ford, along with advances in tools that kept them on the road. The phenomenal success of the automobile can be contributed to many clever and creative mechanics and engineers, who crafted these machines that were maintained by service mechanics and owners using their own treasured tools.
