Teachers consider the Museum’s history symposiums the “must-attend” in-service credit programs.

History Symposiums are truly one of the Museum’s most popular and significant educational experiences. Each one has received rave reviews, such as:

  • “The history symposium allows students, educators, and lovers of history to come together and share in our unique American experiences surrounded by the treasures of the Harrah legacy.”
  • “What a fun and interesting way to explore history!”
  • “One of my favorite Reno events. I am so excited when we reach your symposium time of the year again.”

Symposiums typically feature a specific decade in history since the time of the invention of the automobile. The sessions explore every aspect – politically, culturally and socially. Symposiums have been known to spark lively debates and thought-provoking ideas, to entertain and touch the senses, from joyous laughter to a tear or two, and to generate engaging question and answer sessions.

The four-day agenda, with 15 hours of instruction, features nationally-recognized speakers, prominent authors, local experts, living history performers, a bus tour to unique venues, and more

These educational programs have been awarded grants from Nevada Humanities. Many have won NAAMY Awards of Excellence in Educational Programs in the annual competition of the National Association of Automobile Museums.

Special Benefit for Teachers

The Museum’s symposiums have been approved by the Nevada Department of Education for teachers to receive in-service credit.
